Inside the park is a distinct accommodation choice
Crater Lake Lodge stands at Rim Village; the Cabins at Mazama Village are lower down in the park. Both are seasonal. The current NPS notice checked on 4 November 2026 lists them as closed for the season. They remain important options for future operating dates, but an old photograph or a reservation calendar for a different year does not establish an opening date.
Use the official park lodging information to reach the concession operator for these properties. We have not verified exact Booking.com listings for them, so they are not disguised as bookable partner hotels in our comparison. A property called Crater Lake Resort outside the park is a different business, with a different location and accommodation experience.
Fort Klamath: a southern gateway rather than a resort town
NPS lists Fort Klamath approximately 20 road miles from Steel Information Center at park headquarters. That reference is not the distance from every property to the lake; Rim Village is farther uphill. Fort Klamath can nevertheless make sense for a straightforward southern approach, especially if the alternative is a long morning drive from a larger town.
Aspen Inn is a small inn with private-bathroom rooms and some units offering kitchen facilities. Crater Lake Resort has varied cabin and camping-style categories. Read the exact unit description: a cabin, tent-style booking or room can have very different cooking and bathroom arrangements. Confirm meals and late arrival in advance because a smaller gateway does not offer city-style choice at every hour.
Union Creek and the upper Rogue: choose the western corridor
Union Creek is listed by NPS at roughly 21 miles from headquarters and Prospect at roughly 32 miles. These are western approach bases along the Highway 62 corridor. They work particularly well when the trip continues through Medford or the Rogue Valley, and they allow nearby river scenery to become a separate outing instead of a hurried detour.
Union Creek Resort offers historic rooms and cabins, but bathroom and kitchen arrangements differ. Some room categories use shared bathrooms. A low headline price should therefore be compared against the exact room, not an assumption that every booking includes a private cabin. Our Rogue corridor guide helps connect the overnight stay with stops that fit this side of the park.
Klamath Falls and Rocky Point: more services, more driving
Klamath Falls is roughly 57 miles from park headquarters in the NPS gateway list. Its hotels can suit travellers who want broader restaurant choices, shopping or a wider Klamath Basin itinerary. Fairfield Inn & Suites offers a hotel-style Lake Ewauna base; Golden West Motel is a simpler option on South Sixth Street. Their different city locations also affect the drive.
Running Y Resort adds resort facilities, while Rocky Point Resort is associated with Upper Klamath Lake. Neither offers a view of Crater Lake from a lakeside room. These can be good choices for a regional holiday, but their attraction is not proximity to the caldera. Compare the full approach drive with the time you intend to spend using the property’s own facilities.
Medford, White City and Grants Pass: arrival-night choices
Medford and White City offer hotels on the Rogue Valley side of the journey. Red Lion Hotel Rogue Regency Medford Airport can serve an airport-area night; Best Western Crater Lake Highway White City/Medford is another city-area option. An arrival night here may be more useful than collecting a rental car late and immediately beginning a mountain drive.
Weasku Inn near Grants Pass belongs to a wider Rogue River itinerary. It is not a close park-edge hotel. For all airport-area properties, confirm any transfer service directly instead of assuming a name containing Airport includes a shuttle. Consider whether the next morning’s route, breakfast timing and vehicle parking fit better than a nominally cheaper room elsewhere.
Chemult, Diamond Lake and Bend need a seasonal route check
Chemult and Diamond Lake can fit a northern approach when the North Entrance is open. Once it closes, the legal route to a rim view may require travelling around to Highway 62. Eagle Crater Lake Inn in Chemult is therefore a northern road-trip motel, not an automatically convenient winter park base. NPS’s approximately 25-mile Diamond Lake reference applies when the North Entrance route is available.
Bend is farther away and should be treated as a separate Central Oregon stay. Riverhouse Lodge and Tetherow offer more extensive facilities than a simple gateway motel, but a park visit from them remains a substantial excursion. Read the seasonal route comparison before selecting a northern hotel solely from a map’s straight-line distance.
Compare the complete stay, not the first rate displayed
For each property, compare the total including taxes, the exact beds, bathroom and kitchen, cancellation deadline, arrival procedure and operating season. Ask about steps or accessible-room details if needed. Pet acceptance at a hotel does not mean pets are allowed on the park trail you have chosen. Likewise, an electric-vehicle charger icon is not a guarantee of a compatible, available charger.
Use the room list below to reach the verified Booking.com property pages, then enter your dates. Our budget, mid-range and upscale groupings are editorial comparisons, not official star ratings or promised prices. We have not inspected these properties in person. Keep the chosen accommodation tied to your park day and allow a second viewing window when the lake is the main reason for the trip.
Questions before you go
Which hotels are actually inside the national park?
The seasonal Crater Lake Lodge and Cabins at Mazama Village are the park’s lodging choices described by NPS. The similarly named Crater Lake Resort, Rocky Point Resort and Eagle Crater Lake Inn are outside the park.
Where should I stay when North Entrance is closed?
Compare southern and western approach bases first. Fort Klamath or Union Creek may fit well, while larger towns offer more services. Calculate the exact route rather than choosing solely by distance on a map.
Does a lake-view room overlook Crater Lake?
Usually not in gateway listings. Rocky Point and Running Y concern the Klamath Basin, and Lake Ewauna is in Klamath Falls. Check the named body of water and actual property address.
Are the accommodation categories official star ratings?
No. They are editorial groupings for comparison. The room, dates, taxes and cancellation terms determine the real offer; no live price or availability is promised here.
